Do not wait if your matter may be urgent

MatterPath does not monitor court dates, filing dates, limitation periods or other legal deadlines. Contact a qualified lawyer or an appropriate emergency service directly if a deadline, safety issue or urgent legal need may apply.

1. MatterPath's role

MatterPath is a technology platform that helps consumers organise information about a legal matter and identify participating law firms using requirements supplied by the consumer and verified information supplied by law firms.

MatterPath does not act for a consumer or law firm and does not decide whether a person has a valid claim, defence or legal entitlement.

2. General information only

Website content explains how MatterPath works and provides general information. It is not tailored legal advice and should not be relied on as a substitute for advice about a person's circumstances from a qualified legal practitioner.

Laws, procedures and professional requirements can change and can differ between Australian jurisdictions. MatterPath does not represent that general website information resolves every issue relevant to a particular matter.

3. Assessments and summaries

Guided questions and factual summaries help organise information supplied by a consumer. They do not determine legal rights, assess the merits or value of a matter, predict an outcome or identify every fact a lawyer may need.

A consumer should review and correct their summary before choosing whether to share information. Optional translations are an aid to understanding; the English questionnaire remains the source text.

4. Matching and suggestions

Matching is informational. A suggestion is based on the consumer's stated requirements and participating-practice information available to MatterPath. It does not establish that a matter has merit, identify the only suitable firm or require a law firm to assist.

Payment, membership and bidding do not improve a standard recommendation or its rank. Where paid advertising affects visibility, it is identified as sponsored or featured and is not presented as neutral matching.

5. No lawyer-client relationship

Using MatterPath does not create a lawyer-client relationship with MatterPath. A lawyer-client relationship can arise only under a separate arrangement between a consumer and a law firm.

Information supplied to MatterPath is not automatically protected by legal professional privilege. Consumers control which selected law firms may receive identifying information, subject to the disclosure choices shown in the consumer workflow.

6. Independent law firms

Participating law firms are independent businesses. Each law firm decides whether it can assist, the advice it gives, whether it accepts instructions and the terms on which it provides legal services. MatterPath does not guarantee acceptance, availability, service quality or an outcome.

7. Deadlines and urgent matters

Do not rely on MatterPath to calculate or protect a limitation period, appeal deadline, filing date, court date or any other time limit. If delay could affect rights or safety, seek qualified legal help directly rather than waiting for an assessment, match or reply.

8. Terms and statutory rights

This disclaimer should be read with the General Terms, the terms applying to the relevant user and the Privacy Notice. Nothing in this disclaimer excludes, restricts or modifies a guarantee, right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under the Australian Consumer Law.
